After starting strong and scoring the game’s first points, the University of Connecticut went on to blitz Central Connecticut State University the remainder of the game.

Dan Hussey of CCSU batted in the game’s first run, followed by a quick out from Hunter Pasqualini at first base.

With the bases loaded, after Ramon Jimenez hit a single and Gianno Merlonghi drew a walk, Robert Chesney struck out, leading to CCSU’s third out of the inning.

UConn was up to bat with a score of 1-0 in favor of CCSU.

UConn’s outfielder Jake Studley was able to hit a double, putting him at second base. Studley’s hit was followed by a Luke Broadhurst two-run home run that gave UConn the lead at the bottom of the second.

From then on, UConn extended the lead as they continued their onslaught. They went on to score once in each of the following four innings.

The Huskie’s Dominic Freeberger scored a run in the bottom of the third. Bryan Padilla and Matt Garbowski scored one run each in the following inning for the Huskies. Freeberger scored once more in the bottom of the fourth.

UConn’s run was capped off after Garbowski scored the team’s seventh run in the bottom of the fifth. CCSU was able to get back in the scoring race after Elliot Good stopped the bleeding with a run of his own, but it was hardly enough as UConn continued to push the lead to 7-2.

UConn went on to win 10-4, and CCSU’s record fell to 17-7 on the season. The Blue Devils have every reason to keep their heads high, though. It is only their seventh loss of the season.

CCSU’s next game is against Merrimack, after Tuesday’s game against Siena College had to be canceled.
