Former Central Connecticut quarterback Jacob Dolegala saw his National Football League dream come to fruition as he signed a contract with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent. Despite not being selected in the seven rounds of the draft, Dolegala will now have an opportunity to prove his worth in an attempt to stick on the Bengals’ roster.

Currently, the Bengals have three quarterbacks on their roster: eight-year starter Andy Dalton, back-up Jeff Driskel and 2019 third-round draft pick Ryan Finley out of North Carolina State. Dalton is under contract for just two more seasons while Driskel is a free agent after this campaign.

Prior to the draft, Dolegala received multiple looks from various different teams around the league including the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants and New York Jets. He was often touted for his size, standing at six-feet-six-inches and weighing in at 235 pounds. In addition, he was praised for his strong throwing arm.

The Giants addressed their need for a QB early when they took another Blue Devil, Daniel Jones, out of Duke University, with the sixth overall pick. Meanwhile, the Bills signed Tyree Jackson out of the University of Buffalo after he was surprisingly not selected during the draft.

Per Tim Graham of The Athletic Dolegala also received interest from the Philadelphia Eagles following the draft but Dolegala decided on the Bengals for his first opportunity in the NFL. He will look to impress throughout training camp as he looks to elongate his stay in Cincy.

In his four years as a starter at Central, Dolegala threw for a school-record 8,129 yards and 48 touchdowns. He was named first-team All-Northeast Conference following the 2018 season.

It will be the second year in a row a Blue Devil has been in camp after linebacker Randall Laguerre was invited to Rookie Camp on a tryout basis by the Eagles, though he did not make the squad.

Dolegala could first take the field as a Bengal when offseason team practice activities begin on May 2o. Mandatory minicamp takes place on June 4.
