Wendy Williams: A Real Life Hot Topic

Tyra McClung, Assistant Arts and Entertainment

“How you doin’?”

The famous phrase coined by former radio personality Wendy Williams is the same question millions have been asking the current queen of daytime television.

The “Hot Topics” lady became become a hot topic herself when the Daily Mail broke the story of her husband Kevin Hunter’s alleged ten year-long affair with side chick Sharina “Nikki” Hudson back in September.

The publication provided intimate details of the affair, including the fact that Hunter purchased a $765,000 home for Hudson only nine miles from the home he shares with Williams.

According to Radar Online, the not so secret couple has since moved out of the home and it has been put back on the market, “the listing price is $719,000 – a $46,000 drop in price.”

The most recent bombshell to come from this scandal is an alleged “oops baby.” Multiple reports have surfaced alleging Hudson gave birth to a baby girl on March 24 in Philadelphia. The location was said to be chosen in efforts to evade the media.

Williams has, on multiple occasions, denied all the rumors and has vowed to stand by her husband claiming that all is well in “Huntersville.”

During a taping of her daytime television show “The Wendy Williams Show,” Williams stated: “Marriages are not easy. Don’t ask me about mine until you see this [wedding ring] gone. And it isn’t going anywhere, not in this lifetime.”

During the Thursday taping of her show, Williams announced a week-long hiatus amid baby allegations and is set to return April 8.

The internet has been relentless in attacking Williams since The Daily Mail first broke the story. The memes and negative comments have been endless.

Since William’s marriage has been such a huge topic of conversation, the 54-year-old is said to have relapsed.

The talk show host has always been transparent in regards to her struggles with substance abuse and has recently admitted to living in a sober home since her return to the show.

Megan McCain Al Roker, Steven Tyler and Don Lemon all spoke out in support of Williams and her honestly about her addiction.

“Thanks for being transparent and sharing your truth, Wendy Williams. You are gonna help some folks. Praying for you and your continued health and well-being always,” Actress Yvette Nicole Brown said.

However critics are going hard, claiming Williams is only opening up because the media is outing her. Fans and colleagues alike are furious due to Williams’s refusal to acknowledge the rumors surrounding her Husband and Hudson’s alleged love child.

“[We’re] hoping for the best for Wendy Williams, but I don’t see how y’all can tune into Wendy’s show every day knowing that she’s lying to y’all,” Radio personality and former apprentice and friend Charlamagne Tha God said. “I know that a women that has built her career off of being real is being an absolute total fraud right now.”

Charlamagne is not the only prominent figure to speak out against Williams allegedly covering up the demise of her marriage in the public eye.

Radio host Howard Stern also spoke out against the talk show host after she referred to him as “Hollywood.”

“Worry about your husband not me. F**k you and your dumb show and your mystery illness. She disappears for two months, nobody knows why and now she’s questioning me,” Stern said.

As an avid Williams watcher for many years it is hard to watch her empire slowly crumble. Her reputation and mental health is deteriorating right before the publics eyes.

Instead of being sympathetic many are basking in the demise of Williams. The consensus being that she’s bashed people for years and so this is her karma.

Williams has called Nick Cannons youngest child an “Oops baby.”  She has created charts for both rappers Future and Fetty Wap in an attempt to keep the number of children each rapper has, as well as the number of women mothering each child in order and has cast many other judgements throughout her years on radio and daytime television.

What people fail to realize is that Williams helped to propel hip-hop culture into mainstream media. Many of the celebs that she discusses on her hit show will attest to this fact. Many have even appeared as guests on the show.

“I must say it’s been a long time coming, and I wanna just tell you how proud I am of you because I don’t think you get enough credit for being the first one to really cover our culture. You know the hip hop culture and hip hop celebrities and just understanding that its news,” Sean “P. Diddy” Comb’s said during an interview with Williams. “You started shedding light on our culture and our people and thank you very much.”

The two are said to have had a feud dating back 20 years.

Love her or hate her Williams has done a lot for the culture, she is constantly giving back through her multiple charities and raises awareness on issues such as substance abuse.

Only time will tell if Williams will come forward and address the rumors surrounding her marriage to the public, but in the meantime let’s all exercise a little compassion for the talk show host.
