The ensemble of 15 sat in their chairs listening to their competitors as they were announced. All smiled as their video was shown to the crowd patiently waiting for the winner to be announced. Their smiles only grew bigger as “This Is Us” was announced that they won the Screen Actors Guild award [SAG] for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

“This Is Us” won big, taking the stage for the second year in a row, and their win was well deserved.

“This Is Us” beat out ‘The Americans, The Handmaid’s Tale, Ozark, and Better Call Saul.

The main characters include Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore as Jack and Rebecca Pearson (the parents), Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley as Randall, Kate and Kevin Pearson (the children) and Susan Kelechi Waton as Beth Pearson (Randall’s wife).

“This Is Us” is now on season three breaking more boundaries and bringing more heartwarming drama to the television screen. The series goes back and forth each episode showing flashbacks and takes an event and shows it from different characters point of view.

The baseline to the show is Jack and Rebecca were supposed to have triplets but one died due to complications during birth. While Rebecca was recovering Jack went over to look at the babies when a firefighter stood next to him and said a baby was left on someones doorstep.

That baby would become Randall Pearson. The show begins opening the conversation of race when the Pearson Family which is white adopts a black baby [Randall].

The other part that makes the story so emotional and raw is the fact that Jack Pearson died while the kids were teenagers. Season one was built on the suspense of how Jack died which was later revealed in season two.

The reason that the, “This Is Us” cast took the stage again is simple: the storyline is tissue grabbing, heartwarming and touches on the unpredictabilities of the difficult journey called life.

Randall had to live with the fact that he was adopted and searched endlessly for his birth parents. All three children had to endure the pain of their father dying and try to mend a broken home. While the show may just be a written script, it does not feel like words coming out of actor mouths or scenarios that did not actually take place.

Why? Because we simply as humans deal with unwanted struggles of discrimination, death, weight issues, psychological issues and so much more that is talked about throughout the show.

It is easy to say dramatic emotional rollercoasters is not your taste of television but after watching the show for a few years now it has actually helped me deal with my own personal struggles and has done so for the millions of fans that became hooked.

The SAG award was well deserved. This Is Us will continue to break stigma and bring people together while they continue on with season three.
