Orange You Glad It’s Fall… Fashion?

The leaves are changing and the time has come for you to box up those bathing suits, summer dresses and shorts, but what exactly should be brought out for the autumn season?

As always, the staple fall colors are entering every fashionista’s wardrobe: orange, yellow and green. Fashion and Design Club Treasurer, Xhesika Sejdiraj commented that on top of these three shades, brown and hints of red are hitting the shopping bags and overflowing the closets.

Following this year’s fashion trend requires a little more effort than a crazy collaboration of these colors because the clothes are reverting to a more retro style meshed with what’s up-and-coming.

“Fashion is really split in two in my eyes. Like there’s the 70’s style coming back and then there’s streetwear, which is taking the 90’s meets future type of style,” Sejdiraj said.

Incorporating these decades means that the days of leaves changing and falling off the branches met with muted tones is a thing of the past because hello color. New York Fashion Week this September featured everything but subtle clothes for this fall season.

New York Fashion Week was held on Sept. 6 to 14 this year.

The recent street style embodies the nostalgic trends of the iconic Cher Horowitz from “Clueless” and Neo, Trinity and Morpheus from “The Matrix” — Your eyes are not deceiving you, the 1999’s science fiction classic film is the current fall inspo.

With this chilly seasonal change, throw on a long leather coat and rock the daily wear of Keanu Reeves from “The Matrix.” Spice up any outfit with a subtle addition of shine, similar to the Mylar-like leather at Calvin Klein or the iridescent fabrics at Sies Marjan.

In addition to the big autumnal three colors, fuchsia is also hitting the racks. Wearing pink became an iconic color when millennial pink took storm, but this darker, purple-ish version is the new pink. Dark colored fur — faux or real — is being replaced by colorfully dyed fur with their streetwear styles.

Approximately 43-year-old tracksuits became a non-athletic staple and is coming back around after its brief stint in the late 90’s when Spice Girls Sporty Spice rocked this on stage. During New York Fashion Week, designers like Michael Kors, Alexander Wang, Jeremy Scott, Pyer Moss and Juicy Couture incorporated this high-class sweatpants combo with sparkles, classic fall colors and the new fuchsia bomb.

Patterns are also taking this season by storm: plaid, animal print, contrasting florals and statement tights. Layers are always a given when the temperature begins to drop, but instead of packing on articles of clothing, try staying toasty with sexy prairie and Victorian long dresses or sophisticated, slightly not safe for work suits.

Fall fashion this year is blending so much diversity, which goes hand in hand with Fashion and Design Club’s fashion show set to hit the runway on Nov. 9.

“The theme is vibes, it represents different types of fashion, music and people… It’s very diverse in all topics and areas,” Sejdiraj stated.
