Faculty Senate Briefs

These briefs are from Central Connecticut’s Faculty Senate meeting on Sept. 24. The next meeting will be held on Oct. 15 at 3:05 p.m. in the Vance Academic Center, room 105.

  • The Faculty Senate rejected the Board of Regent’s “Academic Program/Low Completer Review Process” and its interference in academic programming. The Faculty Senate requested that the BOR “cease further interference in institutional affairs pending a review of the mandate and existence of the Board, as affirmed by previous resolutions of the CCSU Senate.” Eastern Connecticut’s Faculty Senate rejected the BOR’s interference as well.
  • The Faculty Senate will participate in the development of a “white paper” that will be sent to the next gubernatorial administration and to the legislature. It will address CCSU’s needs and wishes for the future.
  • A motion to approve the 2018-2019 list of Department Evaluation Committee exemptions passed.
  • Sens. Bob Emiliani, Patrick Foster and Evelyn Phillips were elected to the Committee on the Committees.
  • Secretary Frédéric Latour and Sen. Sylvia Halkin were elected to the Committee on Constitution and Bylaws. Sen. Charles Dimmick already served automatically as a parliamentarian of the Faculty Senate.
  • Sens. Felton Best, Serafín Méndez-Méndez and Angela Morales were elected to the Committee on Academic Freedom.
  • Sens. Felton Best, Serafín Méndez-Méndez and Myrna Garcia-Bowen were elected to the Committee on Appointments and Personnel.
