Making your own pizza is an easy way to make tasty lunch or dinner. Using freshly made sauce gives your pizza that extra kick of deliciousness that will leave you wanting more and never reaching for pre-made sauce again.
Ingredients:
- Small amount of water
- 5-6 Roma tomatoes
- 3 tbsp of Italian seasoning
- 2 tsp of dried basil
- 2 tbsp of dried onion flakes
- 2 tbsp of garlic powder
- 2 tsp of dried parsley
- 1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil
- 5-6 fresh basil leaves (optional)
- 1-2 tsp of fresh thyme (optional)
- Cornstarch (optional)
Directions:
- To a medium saucepan, add just enough water to cover the bottom.
- Wash and finely dice tomatoes, placing them in the saucepan. I prefer to remove and discard the seeds but you can keep them if desired.
- Add in herbs and seasoning. Adjust to your liking as desired.
- Mix well before adding olive oil and mix again.
- Cook over medium-high heat while stirring constantly.
- When tomatoes become soft, crush evenly with a wire masher until mushy.
- Turn heat to low and let simmer for 7-10 minutes or until sauce is evenly cooked.
- After sauce is finishing cooking, remove from heat and let cool for 3 minutes before using.
- Enjoy!
Tips:
- If the sauce is too watery, combine 1 tsp of cornstarch with 2 tsp of water and mix into sauce to thicken. Repeat until sauce thickness is to your liking.
- Use immediately
- If you have leftover sauce, freeze in an ice cube tray for convenient portioning. Store in an air tight container for up to a month.
