The student center was evacuated this morning after two students, one of whom passed out, felt lightheaded.
“The alarms went off and the building was evacuated,” said Mark McLaughlin, Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communication.
EMTs attended to the two students who were both reportedly taken to the hospital.
In an email sent by CCSU officials at 12:07 p.m., the student center’s air quality was investigated by the New Britain Fire Department and state officials as rumors spread among students waiting outside the student center of possible carbon monoxide poisoning, which turned out to not be the case.
“The building has been confirmed safe,” said McLaughlin, “and students are returning to the student center.”
It is not known whether there is a connection between the two ill-feeling students and the incident inside James hall this morning where a smoky fire broke out on the top levels of the building leading to the evacuation of roughly 400 students.
McLaughlin added that no students were overcome by smoke at the time of this morning’s fire and that no other injuries were reported.
CCSU has been working with the Red Cross to set up accommodations as a precautionary measure to today’s events.
The condition of the two students is not yet known.
