Week 14: Fantasy Football Picks

Recorder Sports Staff

Week 14 marks the start of the playoffs for most fantasy football teams and owners will face many crucial decisions if they wish to advance and win their league. For the final time of the 2018 season, The Recorder Sports Staff gives their take on the fantasy landscape.

Who is your sure thing for the week?

Trevi Alickolli- Staff Writer: Mark Ingram (RB, New Orleans Saints)- Ingram is the second option on his team but he still gets his touches. He’s going against a poor Buccaneers defense. The game has the potential to be a shootout and I expect Ingram to benefit from that after two straight stinkers.

Daniel Fappiano- Layout Editor: Keenan Allen (WR, Los Angeles Chargers)- The Bengals defense has looked atrocious as the team slips slowly out of playoff contention. Allen is coming off a game in which he caught 14 passes for 148 yards and a score. He has a good chance to repeat on Sunday.

Julia Jade Moran- Photography Editor: Philip Lindsay (RB, Denver Broncos)- Lindsay has taken over the backfield as his rushing yards per game has been rising steadily each week. He will only continue to add value on the field for Denver in Week 14 against San Francisco.

Who is your sleeper for the week?

Alickolli: Josh Allen (QB, Buffalo Bills)- Allen has been one of the most impressive dual-threat quarterbacks in the league. His fantasy value only exists because of what he’s able to do on the ground, rather than what he can do through the air. Allen has scored over 25 fantasy points in both games since he’s returned from injury and in a divisional matchup against the New York Jets, he could continue his hot streak if he gets it going on the ground once again.

Fappiano: LeGarrette Blount (RB, Detroit Lions)- Despite the Lions’ offense looking anemic at times this season, Blount will have his chance against the Cardinals, who have the worst run defense in the league. Blount should have an opportunity to see high-volume with the Lions playing ahead and find the end zone.

Moran: DJ Moore (WR, Carolina Panthers)- After two weeks of impressive and critical receiving yards for Carolina, Moore was limited to only 44 yards against Tampa Bay this past week. Despite this minor setback, getting back on track shouldn’t prove difficult for this rookie receiver against Cleveland.

Who is going to bust this week?

Alickolli: Doug Baldwin (WR, Seattle Seahawks)- Baldwin’s season has been hampered by injuries. He’s never been able to get on track and has been one of the biggest disappointments of the year. He has failed to reach the 100-yard mark all season and has reached double-digits only once. Fellow teammates Tyler Lockett and David Moore seem like the better options at this point.

Fappiano: Spencer Ware (RB, Kansas City Chiefs)- While Ware has claimed the starting amidst the Kareem Hunt fallout, backup Damien Williams saw a fair share of carries week 13, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes is always a threat to run. Playing a stout Ravens defense, the Chiefs may rely on throwing the ball, limiting Ware’s potential.

Moran: Tom Brady (QB, New England Patriots)- Although he is the G.O.A.T, he has only managed four touchdowns in the past five games. In week 13 against Minnesota, he may have gained over 300 yards passing. Things are not looking up for the veteran quarterback as New England faces Miami in week 14. The Patriots have struggled at Miami in recent years.
