Week Seven Fantasy Picks

Recorder Sports Staff

The Recorder sports staff gives their thoughts on the week seven NFL fantasy landscape.

Who is your sure thing for the week?

Trevi Alickolli- Staff Writer: Sony Michel (RB, New England Patriots)- Typically, New England goes with a running back by committee, but this year is different. Michel has emerged as a lead back who receives most of the carries and produces. He has 316 yards the past three weeks to go along with four touchdowns. Look for him to continue to make good on his opportunities this upcoming week.

Robert Gullo- Staff Writer: Adam Thielen (WR, Minnesota Vikings)-  Thielen has been the most consistent wideout in the league this year, registering 100 yards in every game this season. With the chemistry building up with Kirk Cousins, he’s surpassed Stefon Diggs as the Vikings number one. I expect 130 yards and a touchdown.

Shaina Blakesley- Arts & Entertainment Editor: Todd Gurley (RB, Los Angeles Rams)- Gurley has been a matchup nightmare for all the teams this season, tied for first in touchdowns among running backs and shows no signs of stopping against a week 49ers defense. In PPR leagues, he is a monster.

Who is your sleeper for the week?

Alickolli: Corey Clement (RB, Philadelphia Eagles)- Clement entered the year as a deep sleeper and with Jay Ajayi now done for the year with a torn ACL, he can only stand to benefit. Despite sharing the workload with fellow back Wendell Smallwood and facing a tough defense this week, the versatile Clement is going to get his opportunities and capitalize on them with a high scoring week.

Gullo: David Johnson (RB, Arizona Cardinals)- It’s crazy to even consider Johnson a sleeper. After being sidelined for most of last season, he has started off slow for the Cardinals. In six games, he’s averaging less than 50 rushing yards per game and only has five total touchdowns. Part of his regression has to do with the lack of the passing game after Carson Palmer retired. With a matchup against the Lions, who give up the second most rushing yards, Johnson could have over 100 all-purpose yards with a pair of touchdowns.

Blakesley: Cole Beasley (WR, Dallas Cowboys)- Last week, Beasley put up a monster stat line of nine receptions on 11 targets for 101 yards and two touchdowns against arguably the top secondary in the league. This week, he will be facing the Redskins and Josh Norman, but the once lofty cornerback seems to have lost his step. Look for Beasley to continue to make a living in the slot with the majority of screens and check-downs going his way.

Who is going to bust this week?

Alickolli: Christian McCaffrey (RB, Carolina Panthers)- McCaffrey has surpassed 100 yards rushing just once this season and will go up against a tough Eagles front-seven who is just beginning to gain their confidence. Philadelphia is going to focus on McCaffrey and he will not have a good output.

Gullo: Blake Bortles (QB, Jacksonville)- Bortles will either get you a lot of fantasy points or get you close to none. Although he has had a few impressive games this season, including a 400-yard performance against the Chiefs, Bortles is just too inconsistent to rely on. Against decent defenses this season, he consistently throws for less than 200 yards. With a pass rush including JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney, the Texans should hold Bortles to a low scoring fantasy game.

Blakesley: Alvin Kamara (RB, New Orleans Saints)- With Mark Ingram back in the lineup, look for the Saints to return to their running back by committee. After being the bell cow prior to Ingram’s return, Kamara is nursing some injuries. The Saints will stick to their “thunder and lightning” attack with Ingram set to see goal-line touches. The Ravens defense will not do them any favors either, who held Titans running backs last week to 30 yards in a 21-0 rout.
