SGA Briefs

The Student Government Association meets every Wednesday at 3:05 p.m. in Bellin A and B in the Student Center. These briefs are from the SGA’s meeting on Oct 10.

  • Newly-elected SGA senators were sworn in by Interim Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Peter Troiano after a motion to ratify the 2018 Fall Election results and 2018 Run-Off Election results passed.
  • The Academic Affairs Committee will be working with the CCSU’s branch of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) on initiatives mentioned in the Oct. 5 Work-Life Family Conference, including making CCSU a more age-friendly and breastfeeding-friendly campus.
  • The following items passed in a consent agenda:
    • A motion to allocate $216 for the Anthropology Club for two conference registration tickets.
    • A motion to add under Title 1, Section 1-4 Subsection B, Subordinate Point 3: “Edit and maintain the grammar, format, spelling and standard writing conventions of the By-Laws in a way which does not change the meaning, essence or intention of the language.”
    • A motion to add under Title 5, Section 5-2: “In the event of an election being declared invalid, a restitutory election will be held over a period of time decided by the Senate, in accordance with the following:
      • The Candidates shall be given at least two (2) days prior to voting to campaign.
      • Voting shall take place within a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours.
      • The restitutory election will follow the same Campaign Guidelines employed in the invalid election.
      • No additional students outside of the already established candidates from the invalidated election shall declare their candidacy.”
