Week Five Fantasy Football Picks

Recorder Sports Staff

The Recorder sports staff brings you their thoughts on the fantasy slate for week five in the NFL.

Who is your sure thing for the week?

Trevi Alickolli- Staff Writer: Ezekiel Elliott (RB, Dallas Cowboys)- The Cowboys have finally realized what the rest of the world already knows: Zeke is the best player on their football team and they need to sink or swim in his hands. They finally gave him the majority of the touches on offense and he did not disappoint. Led the team in rushing and receiving and led them to a win. Look for a repeat.

Daniel Fappiano- Layout Editor: Todd Gurley (RB, Los Angeles Rams)- Gurley has been a dominant force thus far, scoring a touchdown either on the ground or in the air in each game this season. Facing a Seahawks defense who just lost their best defensive player in Earl Thomas, Gurley is bound to find the end zone yet again.

Ryan Jones- Assistant Sports Editor: Christian McCaffrey (RB, Carolina Panthers)-Coming off the by, the Panthers’ running back will be well rested against a Giants defense that allowed 134 yards to Alvin Kamara in week 4. McCaffrey logged 184 yards on the ground week 3 against the Bengals, and is poised for strong performance week 5.

Who is your sleeper for the week?

Alickolli: Calvin Ridley (WR, Atlanta Falcons)- While Julio Jones is the superstar receiver on the team, he has yet to get a receiving touchdown this season. Ridley has six touchdowns in just three weeks. He is certainly emerging as a legitimate option and will continue to find the end zone, if nothing else.

Fappiano: Tyler Boyd (WR, Cincinnati Bengals)- After seeing 15 in their week 4 win against the Falcons, Boyd should be poised for a much higher role in the offense now that tight end Tyler Eifert is out for the year with a broken ankle.

Jones: Corey Davis (WR, Tennessee Titans)-The Titans #1 receiver has had a slow start to the 2018 campaign, scoring only 28.1 PPR through the first three weeks. Davis torched the Eagles secondary, getting 161 yards and a touchdown. The Bills defense that Davis will be facing had two Green Bay receivers go for over 80 yards against them.

Who is going to bust this week?

Alickolli: Kenyan Drake (RB, Miami Dolphins)- Drake was projected to be a jack of all trades, workhorse running back, and so far, he has not lived up to the hype at all, as he has rushed for just six total yards in the last two games. Until he proves he has turned it around, he cannot be trusted in a starting lineup.

Fappiano: Kareem Hunt (RB, Kansas City)- The Jaguars have been incredibly stingy against the run this year, allowing just 34 yards to Jets week four. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has proven to be the focal point of the offense, which could limit the number of Hunt’s carries in a game with shootout potential.

Jones: Russell Wilson (QB, Seattle Seahawks)- Wilson performed poorly against the now 0-4 Cardinals, passing for under 200 yards and not throwing a touchdown in the 20-17 win. The Seahawks quarterback faces Rams defense, who despite allowing over 400 yards to Kirk Cousins, is still one of the toughest in the league.
