Week Three Fantasy Picks

Recorder Sports Staff

The Recorder sports staff brings you their thoughts on week three of the NFL fantasy landscape.

Who is your sure thing for the week?

Trevi Alickolli- Staff Writer: Rob Gronkowski (TE, New England Patriots)-  After a horrible showing in week two against the best defense in the NFL, expect Gronkowski to have a huge bounce-back game as the whole Patriots offense looks to rebound against a shaky Lions defense in week three.

Jeremy Ganavafe- Staff Writer: Stefon Diggs (WR, Minnesota Vikings)- Diggs is coming off a dominant performance with nine receptions, going for 128 yards and two touchdowns in the week two tie with the Green Bay Packers. Put that on top of a below-average Bill’s defense and being in front of his home crowd, sounds like nothing but good news for his fantasy owners.

Shaina Blakesley- Arts & Entertainment Editor: Patrick Mahomes (QB, Kansas City Chiefs)- The rookie has had the most touchdowns (10) in history in the first two weeks of the season and is facing a leaky 49ers defense. Kicking off the season with four touchdowns in the first game against the Los Angeles Chargers and six touchdowns versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, let’s see if he can increase that number in week three.

Who is your sleeper for the week?

Alickolli: Ryan Fitzpatrick (QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers)- Do you believe in magic? Fitzmagic that is. The veteran quarterback is lighting it up through two weeks and in week three, he is facing Pittsburgh, who is fresh off of allowing 42 points to the Chiefs and six touchdowns to Patrick Mahomes. He might not put up Mahomes’ numbers, but the matchup is favorable.

Ganavage: A.J. Green (WR, Cincinnati Bengals) – A.J. Green hasn’t been as productive as everybody expected him to be the past two seasons. Hauling in three touchdowns in the Thursday night win against the Ravens, he made it very well known that he is officially back. Green should have a successful day against an average Panthers defense.

Blakesley: Adam Thielen (WR, Minnesota Vikings)- With 25 targets and 18 receptions through two games, Thielen will be looking to cash in on a huge game against a hapless Bills defense. Thielen has 233 yards and a touchdown through the first two games of the season.

Who is going to bust this week?

Alickolli: David Johnson (RB, Arizona Cardinals)- It’s going to be hard to bench a first round pick. But until the Cardinals offense actually starts to look like an NFL offense, it’s going to be hard to have a lot of confidence in Johnson.

Ganavage: Melvin Gordon (RB, Los Angeles Chargers) – Gordon has found success the first two games of the season, but expect that success to shut down this week against arguably the most talented team in the NFL. The Rams held the Cardinals’ David Johnson to only 48 yards on 13 carries and no touchdowns. Expect a slightly similar result with Gordon.

Blakesley: Sam Bradford (QB, Arizona Cardinals)- Look for the quarterback woes to continue as his offensive line continues to struggle against elite pass rushers. Bradford will be looking across the field from Khalil Mack in this one and that doesn’t bode well for his health should the run game in Arizona continue to struggle. Running back David Johnson has yet to return to form under this new coaching regime and is a secondary bust by default.
