Week Two Fantasy Football Picks

Recorder Sports Staff

The Recorder sports staff gives their thoughts on the fantasy football landscape for the week.

Who is your sure thing for the week?

Trevi Alickolli- Staff Writer: Alvin Kamara (RB, New Orleans Saints)- Kamara has a favorable matchup against a shaky Cleveland defense who gave up 135 yards to James Connor in week one. Look for him to double his production on the ground from week 1 while still being a reliable pass catcher for Drew Brees.

Griffin Garcia- Staff Writer: Drew Brees (QB, New Orleans Saints)- Brees just put up 439 yards and three touchdowns. The Saints will look to come back after a week one shootout that ended in an upset loss to the Buccaneers. Suffering a tough loss makes great teams play with an edge the next week. The team that will face this wrath: the Cleveland Browns. Despite managing a tie (which is a win for Cleveland as of late), the Browns do not seem ready for an angry Drew Brees.

Robert Gullo- Staff Writer: Patrick Mahomes (QB, Kansas City Chiefs)- After tearing up a tough Chargers defense, accounting for 256 yards and four touchdowns, he should continue his success against the Steelers, who failed to beat the Browns in week one.

Who is your sleeper for the week?

Alickolli: JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR, Pittsburgh Steelers)- Smith-Schuster quietly had a very productive game week one, with over 100 yards and a touchdown catch called back because of a flag. He’s firmly established as the second option in that offense and with Le’Veon Bell still missing, expect him to get a ton of looks next week.

Garcia: Chris Thompson (RB, Washington Redskins)- Thompson’s value as an RB1 or RB2 is solely for PPR leagues. However, he still has flex value in all leagues. Thompson totaled 128 total yards of offense and a receiving touchdown in week one and with Alex Smith’s safe style of play, the trend will continue.

Gullo: Adrian Peterson (RB, Washington Redskins)- In a surprising 24-6 win over the Cardinals, Peterson totaled 166 all-purpose yards along with a touchdown, and He should fair well in a home game against the Colts, who have had one of the worst defenses in recent years and gave up 100 rushing yards to Bengals in week one.

Who is going to bust this week?

Alickolli: Devonta Freeman (RB, Atlanta Falcons)- Freeman left Thursday’s game against Philadelphia early with a knee injury. Though it’s not believed to be serious, the combination of being banged up and facing a Carolina defense that held Ezekiel Elliott to just 69 rushing yards this past week does not bode well for the star back.

Garcia: Travis Kelce (TE, Kansas City Chiefs)- With Patrick Mahomes taking the keys to the Chiefs offense, Kelce’s fantasy value seems like it will begin a downward spiral. Andy Reid seems to trust Mahomes’ ability to throw the ball far downfield and Kelce will suffer from that. After a rough week one, don’t expect too much more this week.

Gullo: Joe Flacco (QB, Baltimore Ravens) After throwing for 236 yards & three touchdowns in a near-flawless performance Sunday in a 47-3 rout against the Bills, expect Joe Flacco to not perform too well in a prime-time Thursday night road game against division rival Cincinnati Bengals, who have a much better defense and pass rushers than the Bills.
