With the semester winding down, it also means that the men’s golf team is gearing up for a championship run. With just two events remaining on their schedule before the NEC Championships, the team traveled to New Haven to take on the Yale Spring Invitational. However, the men had a tough showing, finishing in 12th of 16 teams in the two-round event.
Freshman Nick Piersall was the best Blue Devil of the weekend, shooting rounds of 73 and 74 to come in a tie for 15th place individually.
Anthony Sebastianelli came in a tie for 25th place after posting scores of 78 and 71. His second-round score was the best score the Blue Devils had for any round all weekend.
Senior Brandon Raine had the third best score for Central, and the 46th best individual score with rounds of 78 and 75.
Freshman Joe Tucker had back-to-back scores of 79, which put him in a tie for 66th place.
Sophomore Arthur Ouimet rounded out the Central effort with scores of 80 and 81, good for 75th place.
Raine, the team captain, shared that the team hopes to improve overall and wants to build off of some good that came out of this weekend.
“As a team our finish is a little disappointing but individually we all saw some positives and we are trying to build on them in order to be ready for NEC.”
Raine also shared how the team was open to the challenge of taking on competition from some of the most prominent schools in the country.
“Yale is always a fun course to play. It was fun to be in the same field as University of Tennessee and University of Virginia and see what some of the big-name schools are capable off,” Raine said.
The Blue Devils participated in the Rhode Island Invitational April 17 and 18, their final tune-up before the NEC Championships April 28-30.
“We have one event remaining before our conference championship, so our goal is to perform to the level we know we are capable of and head into the championship with some momentum,” Raine said.
