Herman Cain is done. The former Republican front-runner for president just had his own gaffe and it was one that made Rick Perry’s missteps look graceful in comparison.
During an on-camera interview with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel editorial board last week, Cain spent almost two minutes not answering an easy question. Did he, businessman Herman Cain, support President Obama’s Libya policy? At one point Cain even asked the questioner, “”President Obama supported the uprising, correct?” Cain stumbled through an answer that isn’t worth the time to quote. He had no idea. The five-minute clip is pathetic. This man is running to be the next President of the United States? Come on.
It’s hard to watch the video. Cain looked painfully confused and, when first asked, showed nerves with a spurt of fast blinking. Cain officially has had his Perry moment for the campaign.
Cain, while in Iowa filming a new campaign ad, defended his response.
“First of all, you need to understand what happened at the editorial board,” said Cain. “Being in a room where you’re being asked question after question about different topic after different topic, I paused, and I don’t understand why that pause created so much quote-unquote controversy.”
Shouldn’t a presidential candidate be quick, witty and know about previous military actions? Was Cain under a rock when this happened? As president you have to know what’s going on. I’m not saying you have to be the best expert out there, but you need to have a grasp of the world, no?
If Cain isn’t finished soon with his presidential run and the polls keep him in the running, we have a national problem. If the American people feel that he has what it takes to be a leader, I won’t know what to do. This is almost as laughable when Sarah Palin thought Africa was a country, not a continent, on Fox News. The hits just keep on coming and now they are just piling on.
Cain’s camp said that their candidate was tired. Do I buy that? Sure, but how can we give remorse to the guy if he cannot answer such a simple question as that? The reporters at the Journal Sentinel gave Cain a bone and he dropped it. Those newspapermen and women were asking Cain questions that every candidate will have to know about and answer. Cain should have known the answer. Even his own party agreed with Obama’s actions in Libya.
If he is so sleepy and tired why is he having pizza parties with GQ staff members? Cain sat down with editors and critics for the magazine in mid-October and didn’t disappoint with embarrassing quotes.
“The more toppings a man has on his pizza, I believe the more manly he is,” said Cain. “Because the more manly man is not afraid of abundance. A manly man don’t want it piled high with vegetables! He would call that a sissy pizza.”
I guess it isn’t hard answering questions about pizza. That’s something we are all looking for in our commander-in-chief.
The opportunity on Monday should have been a nice, easy clip for Cain. It could have helped his nonexistent foreign policy image, a little bit at least.
Is it helping that Cain’s wife of 43 years, Gloria, spoke on his behalf on Fox News? No. Gloria’s interview defending her husband comes at a time when Cain needs a boost. Is the interview a good idea? Sure, but saying that the accusations by the women who have come forward so far are “baseless,” may not bode well for Mr. Cain in the future if more light is shed on what really happened.
“Everybody has an opinion, but they don’t know Herman,” Gloria Cain said in the interview with Greta Van Susteren.
Now America knows Herman. They know that he doesn’t know what he is talking about. The bottom line here is that he shouldn’t run and shouldn’t keep embarrassing himself and the establishment he is trying to be in charge of. The American people aren’t idiots and don’t want one leading them.
