An article published by the Hartford Business Journal is claiming that former CCSU track coach, Brenda Webb is suing the school after declining to renew her contract following the 2010 season.
According to the article, Webb is suing CCSU for $2 million and her job back after claiming that she was fired and given unequal treatment in the athletics department at CCSU.
The suit, which was filed on Nov. 1 is citing alleged violations of the Title 9 statues. Title 9 covers gender equality amongst collegiate sports.
The school cannot comment due to the ongoing investigation, but a statement was released saying that, “Because this is a pending legal matter the University cannot comment on the suit. We want to affirm, however, that the University takes great pride in the success and quality of its women’s athletics programs. CCSU has been nationally recognized for its commitment to providing equal athletic opportunities to our women student athletes.”
Webb was appointed to the position of women’s track and field coach in 2007 by former athletics director, C.J. Jones, but the team has since been taken over by Eric Blake, who coaches both the men’s and women’s cross-country and track teams.
