Two rain dates pushed back the CCSU Club Fair back to this Tuesday outside the student center. The event was scheduled to be inside, due to the fact that the previous two outdoor attempts failed, but the perfect weather forced the event back to its original location.
Almost all clubs were represented at the several dozen tables where students could come and sign up for one they may be interested in.
“So far the club fair has been really good,” said CCSU junior Manya Suffrard, an accounting major who is a member of the Africana Students’ Organization. “We’ve seen a lot of new faces; transfers and freshmen too.”
That was the general feel of the afternoon event, which lasted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Psychology Club treasurer, Nicholas Marinelli said, “We have over a page of names, all day we’ve been talking to people and having fun.”
This was also a chance for younger students to become acclimated to their new environment. It can be hard for a freshmen or transfers to feel welcome on campus, so signing up for a club can make them feel like they have a home.
There were others, like exercise science major, Kelly Anderson, who noticed that her major didn’t have a club on campus. She said, “I’m thinking about starting one,” she continued with her description of the day as, “Today has been pretty fun.”
The several dozen clubs were well represented, with spokespeople from Student Government Association to the Car Club. Club meeting times can be found online on ‘The Link’ which is located on the CCSU website.
