Disney’s new princess movie, Tangled, was held to high standards by young women all over the country, as they and myself have grown up with classics such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Snow White.
This is a movie made for children. Unlike popular movies such as Shrek, which took a classic story line and gave it a modern, comedic twist, Tangled was more child-oriented. As a teenager I loved Shrek’s dry humor, but I was really glad that Tangled made me feel like a kid again.
The animation is fantastic. Although it is not 3D, the movie is still a great work of animation, and you won’t have a headache by the end.
Another great thing about the movie is the character development. There are very well designed characters in this movie, ones that you can get attached to, just like when you were a kid. Rapunzel is voiced by star Mandy Moore, which was a good choice considering she has an awesome singing voice (kind of a necessity in Disney princesses). The character of Flynn Rider is voiced by the actor of Chuck, Zachary Levi. The character of Flynn is very easy to fall in love with, and Levi does a pretty good job on the vocals, as well. But the best and funniest characters are the animal comrades who help save the day. The trusty horse Maximus and Pascal the chameleon are never short on funny expressions and actions, which helps make the movie a real Disney piece.
The Villains are pretty scary, but not over done. The classic evil step-mother in the story line (voiced by Donna Murphy) has an incredible singing voice.
The real reason this movie is such a hit is because adults and kids can both enjoy it. The story line is easy to follow, and you get so wrapped up in the characters that it never seems to move slowly. Most of the audience was laughing the whole time, and it was mainly adults. If you have a young one you want to treat, or even if you simply want to indulge yourself in a little childhood fantasy, then Tangled is a sure win for you.
