Central Connecticut State University graduate guard Jordan Jones was named Northeast Conference/Atlantic Tomorrow’s Office Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, Feb. 17. This marks the third time he’s received the honor and the eighth time that a Blue Devil has won the award this season.
Last week, Jones averaged 21.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game in two home wins against the Mercyhurst Lakers and the Saint Francis Red Flash. He helped improve CCSU’s win streak to eight and their record in the NEC to 10-2, keeping them in first place.
Jones scored a game-high 19 points, dished out eight assists and shot 3 of 5 from three-point range against Mercyhurst on Thursday, Feb. 13. Against Saint Francis two days later, he scored 24 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the field, 3 of 4 from three-point range. He added seven assists and helped the Blue Devils pull off a 27-0 run that turned the game upside down.
Jones continues to be a Swiss army knife, ranking fourth in the NEC in points per game with 14.0, fourth in assists per game with 3.5, sixth in steals per game with 1.6 and third in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.9.
Jones, senior forward Jayden Brown and junior guard Devin Haid were also named NEC Prime Performers of the Week. Last week, Brown averaged 14.5 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game and shot 57.1% from the field, while Haid averaged 16 points per game, 7 rebounds per game and 1.5 steals per game.
The Blue Devils will try to continue their winning streak and maintain hold of first place in the conference when they take on the Chicago State Cougars on Thursday, Feb. 20, at Jones Convocation Center. Central then heads back to Detrick Gymnasium for a matchup against the Stonehill Skyhawks on Saturday, Feb. 22.
