The Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils were swept in a three-game series against the Stonehill College Skyhawks.
In a doubleheader on Friday, March 29, both teams’ offenses were hot as they combined for 52 hits over 18 innings.
Senior Jake Neuman got the start in game one for Central but struggled, giving up five hits and six earned runs. Four relievers were used to finish the game.
Stonehill won the first game 10-2. Central had 10 hits in the game but only two RBIs.
In game two, the Blue Devils started senior Anthony Mozzicato. After throwing three innings, Mozzicato was relieved by senior Luke Garofalo. After three innings from Garofalo, Wyatt Cameron and Nic Benhardt threw one inning each.
Senior Joe Rios hit two home runs, giving him four RBIs. Jeff Nicol, Aidan Redahan, and Chris Barkasy recorded three additional RBIs.
CCSU’s offense played tight with Stonehill but was outhit by four. The Skyhawks defeated the Blue Devils 15-10.
Junior second baseman Brady Short said the team will move on and stay motivated.
“We are going to use this weekend as motivation for the upcoming game on Monday and the rest of the season,” he said. “Not wanting to feel this feeling again and fueling us to go out and play better baseball as a collective group.”
This is Central’s second conference series loss this season. The Blue Devils went 1-2 against Wagner College.
Short said he is ready to turn the page and put this series behind them.
“Next series against Merrimack is a great opportunity to turn the page and go out and try and win the series and get back on track,” Short said.
The Blue Devils will be back at home on April 5 for a Northeast Conference matchup against the Merrimack College Warriors.
