The Central Connecticut State University women’s basketball team lost 56-37 to the University of Albany on Wednesday, Dec. 6, in Detrick Gymnasium, dropping them to 1-8 on the season.
Albany’s post-play caused many problems for the smaller defenders of CCSU. The Great Danes ran a style of offense that allowed the center and forwards to run the offense, set screens, and be physical in the paint. Albany also outrebounded the Blue Devils by 15.
UAlbany’s defensive switches caused 16 turnovers, leading to 19 points, and shut down Central’s offense.
The Blue Devils couldn’t gain control of the game from the start. The UAlbany defense interrupted CCSU’s game plan and held them to nine points in the first quarter.
During the game, the Blue Devils struggled to make shots and only made 26% of their field goal attempts, well below their season average of 44%.
At halftime, the Blue Devils were trailing by only six points and seemed confident of making a comeback in the third quarter. But, the UAlbany team started the second half with a 9-2 scoring run to demoralize the Blue Devils and take the wind out of their sails for the rest of the game.
CCSU failed to mount a comeback as they could not create stops and take quality shots, resulting in only four points scored in the fourth quarter.
The Blue Devils will look to end their losing streak on the road as they travel to South Orange, New Jersey, to take on Seton Hall University on Friday, Dec.8.
