Spring Is Here, I’m So Excited I Wet My Plants
March 19, 2019
This Wednesday marks the first day of spring, which means it’s finally time to trade in that puffy coat for a short sleeve t-shirt and perhaps some sandals. If you weren’t able to accomplish as many warm-weather activities as you would have liked over spring break, don’t worry- you still have plenty of time.
If you’re wondering how to best celebrate the next three months, consider these activities to help you spring into the season.
1. Go Camping
Though you may have to dust off your sleeping bags, camping is always a fun activity for anyone at any age to enjoy. You don’t have to travel far to experience the best of it, either. If you’re looking to stay homebound, consider camping out in your backyard with some friends for a night. With a bonfire and some s’mores to keep you warm and satisfied, it’s an activity you can’t beat.
2. Consider A Garden
Yes, gardens may require a lot of hard work, but there’s no doubt they’re worth it in the end. Nothing feels better than finally seeing the flowers you planted bloom. Not only that, but it also brings some much-needed color to your yard after a long and dreary winter.
3. Take A Hike
You no longer have to worry about slipping on ice with every step you take. Celebrate that by taking a hike. The warm fresh air combined with the sounds of birds chirping is enough to make anyone smile. Consider going with your friend, significant other or even your dog. Just don’t forget to pack snacks.
4. Have A Beach Day:
The water may not be warm enough to swim in yet, but that shouldn’t stop you from soaking up the sun in the sand. Grab a chair and a book to read while you’re there. If you’re really feeling productive, bringing your homework to do isn’t a bad idea either.
5. Go To A Baseball Game:
Nothing says spring more than a baseball game, and you don’t have to travel all the way down to Florida to witness spring training. The Hartford Yard Goats at Dunkin Donuts Park is only a short drive away from campus.
6. Go For A Bike Ride:
Both simple and fun, biking is not only an enjoyable activity but also a great way to sneak in your daily exercise. Whether you’re going around town or through the park, it’s a great way to take in all the scenery the season has to offer.
7. Visit A Food Truck:
You may not realize it now, but farmers markets and food trucks are everywhere. Not only that, but they’re often cheaper than sit-down restaurants. Enjoy the snack of your choice on a picnic blanket or a local park bench.
8. Grab Some Chalk And Bubbles… Yes, Really
This is by far the best way to channel your inner 10-year-old. Just because you’re in college doesn’t mean you have to stop partaking in your favorite childhood activities. It’s okay to sit in your driveway and draw some pretty pictures or blow some bubbles.
9. Break Out The Kayak Or Canoe:
You don’t have to wait until the middle of summer to start on the water activities, and chances are a body of water isn’t too far from you. If you have a kayak or canoe, grab and enjoy.
10. Just Take It In… It Won’t Last Forever
Whatever you decide to do, don’t forget to enjoy it. And before you know it, the season will be over. Just remember to stop, look up and take in what’s around you.
