Seven of the eight possible playoff spots have been clinched in the Northeast Conference as the regular season comes to a close.

Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, Saint Francis (BKN), Saint Francis (PA), Mount St. Mary’s, Wagner and Bryant have all punched their ticket to the postseason while Central Connecticut, Fairleigh Dickinson and LIU Brooklyn fight for the last spot.

The winners continue to win this week in NEC play as there were no major surprises or upsets in the final box scores.

A late-season push for the playoffs was derailed this week for LIU Brooklyn, as they lost both of their matchups, first against top-ranked Robert Morris, losing 71-54, before falling to CCSU 72-59.

It was no surprise the Colonials took care of business against the last ranked team, but for the Blue Devils, this was a huge win as they now hold they last playoff spot and control their own destiny with just two games remaining.

Led by senior guard Kiana Patterson, CCSU put up the most points in a victory since Jan. 16, when they defeated SFU, 73-62. Patterson ended the game with 23 points

In terms of the formula for CCSU to get into the playoffs, it is simple: win and you are in. They host FDU and SFBK to close out the season.

SFBK split their games this week as they lost to SFU by two points, only to come back on fire and put up a total of 101 points on Saturday against Bryant.

Fireworks were on display in Pennsylvania in SFU’s two-point win over the Terriers as the two teams produced seven scorers in double-figures.

Teammates Jess Kovatch and Haley Thomas led SFU with 24 and 27 points, respectively, while Jade Johnson led the Terriers with 31 of her own.

Johnson then followed that performance by scoring 26 points in her teams’ 101-77 victory over Bryant, only to be outscored by her teammate, Amy O’Neill, who scored 28 points on 80 percent shooting from the field.

The Terriers are no strangers to 100-point games, as this was their fourth this season alone. They have shown they can definitely catch fire offensively.

Some other notable performances around the conference include Naomi Ashley, who scored 28 points in Bryant’s win against Wagner.

Katherine Haines of Sacred Heart and Madelynn Comly of Fairleigh Dickinson went back and forth with each other as they each scored 22 points in their matchup on Monday, with Sacred Heart winning the game.

As Robert Morris defeated LIU Brooklyn early last week, center Nneka Ezeigbo scored 30 points in the victory. That is her highest scoring output of the season.

Every Northeast Conference team has two games remaining in the regular season, then the focus will shift to the playoff tournament.

For most, the attention may have already shifted, but for the bottom three teams in the conference, the race is still on.
