A new album is scheduled to be released October 30, that will bring you back to your childhood, make you feel at home and undoubtedly rock your world. Remember Disney? Remember all those countless hours you spent cross-legged, inches from the television, without a worry in the world as your favorite characters taught you life values you still abide by? Prepare your ears and your heartstrings, ’90s kids. “We Love Disney” is back at it again.
This upcoming release, under the Walt Disney/Verve label and produced by chairman of Verve David Foster, will be the third album of the compilation series that began in 2013. Maybe you guys have heard of it; I had not, and I am genuinely excited. These albums feature several tracks of favorite classic Disney films sung by popular current artists.
The artists invited to be a part of the compilation choose what songs they would like to perform. Of all the positive aspects of the album, I must say that I was most intrigued by looking at what songs the artists chose. To imagine these celebrities we hear about on a day to day basis having childhoods similar to my own is fascinating.
This album will feature covers by Jessie J, Jason Derulo, Gwen Stefani, Arianna Grande, Jhene Aiko, Fall Out Boy, Tori Kelly, Kacey Musgraves, Charles Perry, Jessie Ware, Lucy Hale, Rascal Flatts, Brenna Whitaker and Yuna.
I found out about this from Matt Crane’s “Alternative Press” article, “Fall Out Boy discuss their favorite Disney song.” An avid FOB fan myself, and a quite typical ’90s kid, this was just about the most exciting thing to come across. Lead singer Patrick Stump explained the reasoning behind their decision. “So I think we picked ‘I Wan’na Be Like You’ from The Jungle Book because there’s something, I don’t know, kind of dangerous and punk rock about the way King Louie is in the film. He’s kind of a villain, kind of not, he’s kind of just out for himself and there’s something kind of relatable about that.”
It’s fascinating to see the movies that we grew up on still having effect on our attitudes, personalities and values far and wide. Disney has always been welcomed eagerly into our lives, providing us with cherishable memories and thought-provoking messages, and now it has found a way to continue to do so.
