Finding a genuinely good instant streaming movie on Netflix can sometimes be a chore, but there are sites that can help. A Better Queue (Abetterqueue.com) is a great site for finding out what movies are streaming on Netflix and have high ratings on Rotten Tomato (one of the best sites for determining a good movie.) One can search by the type of movie, year it came out and how high a rating they have on the “Tomato Meter.”
With 222 positive reviews by professionals and a 98% rating on the “Tomato Meter,” “The Artist” is certainly one film that is worth watching. This is the type of film that I can watch over again and again and not get bored. The idea of “The Artist” is a complete deviation from what modern day films are expected to be. Any person that has a respect for the film industry can appreciate the beauty of this.
The movie is in the style of the beautiful black and white silent films of years ago. Director Michael Hazanavicius created a romantic comedy between a young female film extra, Peppy Miller, played by Berenice Bejo, and a silent film star, George Valentin, played by Jean Dujardin.
Miller auditions as a dancer for one of Valentin’s films and the chemistry is seen after that, even though Miller is just an extra trying to make it in the industry.
“The Artist” traces the move that films made from silent films into “talkies” and the problems that some actors had with that change. Valentin is not ready for the change, yet Miller embraces the new films. Valentin’s career begins to have troubles when the “talkies” take over, and Miller becomes more of a star.
It is a story of love, loss and coming to terms with change. Without saying a word, “The Artist” has a developed a story line that will make the audience fall in love with all the characters easily. It is a movie that everyone should watch to appreciate how films once were and see something very different from anything else out there.
The film is a visual masterpiece in the acting, dancing, music and the cinematography, winning five Academy Awards and three Golden Globes.
There are many movies that are worth seeing on Netflix, and this is definitely one of them. It explains so much about the film industry and is definitely worth a watch (or a watch again if you have seen it). So go ahead, grab some friends, have a film noir party and watch this great film!
