Contrary to rumors that have been circulating around campus, Elmers bar and restaurant will not be shutting down this year, or in the years to come.
Details surrounding the rumor particularized that the Elmers plaza would have to be demolished to make room for an entrance/exit ramp for the new CTFastrak transit system in the coming year.
Elmers is located at 1433 East Street, New Britain, across the street from Campus View Apartments.
In a statement to The Recorder, Department of Transportation’s media contact Judd Everhart dispelled all possibilities of the Elmers plaza being demolished.
When asked if the rumors were true Everhart responded, “The short and unequivocal answer is absolutely not. The CTFastrak route has been laid out for years and construction is well under way. If the DOT needed that private property, it would have already been acquired.”
Although many students on campus were subject to the whispers on campus, there were some students that knew that demolishing the plaza was not a possibility.
CCSU senior Brianna Bruneau currently works at Elmers and can be seen serving Elmers customers on any given Thursday night. According to Bruneau, management has been hiring new employees for the upcoming semesters, which also goes against the rumors that Elmers will be closing within the year.
It is still uncertainty where or how these rumors got started. Attempts to find the original source proved fruitless, with most students stating that they heard the rumors in passing conversation.
