Reports of flames and smoke coming from Copernicus Hall on campus on Sunday night have been denied.
There was no fire whatsoever, a pressure release valve had failed and let out a large amount of steam, according to CCSU Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communications Mark McLaughlin.
McLaughlin added that Facilities Management was able to go into the building and shut the valve down sustaning no injuries. No problems have been reported and there is no damage whatsoever.
“They look more spectacular than they really are,” said McLaughlin.
Classes will be running as normal tomorrow.
The Recorder arrived on the scene and emergency crew workers were seen exiting the building laughing and looked composed.
One firefighter told The Recorder that: “it was just a boiler problem, steam release..this building is known for these problems.” A second firefighter confirmed that there was no fire and that all was under control.
Emergency crews have already left the scene.
