While I’m fairly new to CCSU, I’m certainly not new to Connecticut. It seems the more I walk around campus, the more loogey’s I see being hocked or that have already been hocked onto the ground.
So walking to class I hopscotch over them the best I can, but enough is enough. Am I missing something? Is it in the college handbook to spit in public regularly or has decency been thrown out the window?Everywhere I look, people are openly spitting directly on the pavement I and all the other students have to walk on.
My stroll from the student center to Willard Hall always has at least three or four spit-spot tings along the way that I’m forced to out-maneuver.
No napkins, no trying to cover it up. Nah, there’s no shyness here; just a nice big spit coming to your shoes at a 45 degree angle.
I’m not alone here; many other students have taken noticed to the spit issue.
CCSU senior Wayne Lawrence Jr. says he’s “aware of it” and thinks these individuals messing our walkways with spit need to be in a more appropriate position where it’s away from foot traffic.
I guess in China it’s a cultural norm to openly spit without hesitation, but c’mon, don’t degrade our beautiful campus by launching your wads of spit all over it.
Believe me, I’m far from perfect. I spit when it’s needed but it’s not on display for all of campus to see. I try to be as private as possible.
Allie Chevalier, another CCSU senior, wonders what could be done to combat the issue.
“Maybe they could put more water fountains on campus,” she says.
Whatever the remedy may be, some students on campus need to take a class on etiquette.
Do me a favor. The next time you see someone spitting near you, give them a gross look.
Hey, if you don’t like it then you can spit at me. That way I at least know your reading.
