‘Batwoman’ Arrives In The Arrowverse
October 16, 2019
*Spoiler Warning!*
With the CW show “Arrow” wrapping up, a new hero comes onto the scene and into the Arrowverse.
Ruby Rose is the perfect addition to the CW family as Batwoman. “Batwoman” premiered on the CW channel Sunday, Oct. 6 with the utmost anticipation.
Rose outperformed herself in representing the character Kate Kane, with her tattoos, bad-ass attitude, and demeanor. Rose becoming Batwoman is the best choice that could have been made. Being a proud member of the LGBTQ community, even proposing to her girlfriend, and fashion designer Phoebe Dahl, in 2015, Rose is also the first actress to portray a lesbian female superhero lead on television.
Kate Kane is the cousin of Bruce Wayne, our favorite masked vigilante Batman, the “Dark Knight.”
Kane was first introduced as a part of the Arrowverse last December in a crossover event the CW calls “Elseworlds.” The crossover features characters from “Arrow,” “Supergirl” and “The Flash” while including other characters such as Lois Lane and Batwoman.
All the other shows in the Arrowverse stray a bit from the comic counterparts, and “Batwoman,” at least from the pilot alone, seems to be no exception. But hopefully, the show will remain true to the “Batwoman” comics.
As the show begins, Kane is trying to find her purpose after being kicked out of the police academy for falling in love with another woman from her training. Her father decided to send her to the academy in the first place because he didn’t want her to join the task force.
Once Kane comes back home, she realizes her past girlfriend was kidnapped by Alice, her long lost sister who was presumed to have died along with their mother when Batman tried to save all three of them from going off of a bridge. Kane’s father is the leader of the new police task force that compensates for Batman’s disappearance.
While working to solve the disappearance of her crush, Kane finds herself in the Batcave discovering that her cousin is Batman. She learns that he was working on a case involving their family before he disappeared.
As the story continues, hopefully, viewers will discover why Batman has disappeared and whether or not Kane’s dad will accept her new mantle of Batwoman, as he does in the comics.
The only notable eyesore was that Rose’s version of Batwoman was not sporting her signature long, ruby red hair and that her starter outfit didn’t bare the red bat symbol upon her chest plate.
If you like the Arrowverse, DC superheroes or if you’re a fan of comics in general, this show is definitely for you.
New episodes will be released every weekend on Sunday at 8 p.m.
