Karate Tournament Comes To CCSU

On March 31st, Central Connecticut held its annual Intercollegiate Karate Tournament in Kaiser. Every year, the CCSU Karate Club brings together schools from throughout New England for this event.

All different types of universities and styles were represented, including Rutgers University, Boston University, Tufts University, MIT, Harvard, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Middlesex Community College and Fairfield University. These schools brought different styles like Shotokan and different variations of tang soo do, which is the style taught at CCSU’s Karate Club.

Students competed in two events, forms and sparring. Forms were split by belt level and sparring was split by varsity and JV. CCSU’s own Patrick Jezierny scored a third place in black belt forms. This tournament gave students the opportunity to experience different martial arts styles that they would not normally interact with. Different karate schools were able to compare their styles and connect with each other.

This tournament grows every year, giving students even more diversity each tournament. CCSU is proud to have hosted such a great experience for collegiate karate clubs.
